Do I need to know how to speak spanish? |
|
No. Very few of our summer interns have been fluent in spanish. Anything that you know will help, so take some time before you join us for the summer to learn some new phrases. You will be surprised how much you learn just by spending two months in Mexico. |

|
| What should I pack? |
|
You should have at least two weeks worth of clothing available without needing to do laundry. Though you may bring more than one suitcase with you to Laredo for the Summer Internship Program, you will not be permitted to take any more than one regular sized suitcase on a mission trip (outside of Nuevo Laredo), so be sure that you can fit all that you need for 7-10 days into one.
While packing, please be sure to include several pairs of work clothes (that you won't mind getting paint or cement on) and a pair of work shoes. Also several dress outfits for church (slacks and button-ups or polos for guys and long skirts for girls)
Pants are generally required to be worn during ministry (so pack at least three pairs), but modest shorts may be worn during free time. Open toed shoes such as flip-flops are not permitted during ministry times, so be sure to bring at least one pair of comfortable tennis shoes.
The weather will generally be hot, short-sleeved weather, but Mexico City is at a high altitude and has a much cooler climate with a lot of rain. For that trip, be sure to pack at least one light jacket or hoodie and a few slighly warmer shirts for night ministry.
Personal hygene items, soap and shampoo, a towel and at least one swimming suit (modest one-piece for girls, no speedos for guys). |
